Fancy Nancy Party

The library had a Fancy Nancy Party for the girls & Mackenzie loved getting all dressed up like Fancy Nancy. She was also first in line to be the leader of the Fancy Nancy Parade. She wore the dress-up dress & shawl I made her for her birthday last year. She looked so darn cute!

They made a little frame to put their picture in too.

First Day of School 2009

Katie decided to switch to the Charter school this year & we got a call as we were driving to Lagoon telling us that Kennedy had made it into the charter school. Charter schoool means they can WALK to school, have to wear uniforms, & Kennedy is in the same class as her best friend. Mackenzie had to start at a new school alone this year, but she doesn't seem to care. She still gets to ride the bus with her friend from last year & she can wear whatever she wants. She did have drama on the first day of school. What are the chances of being stung on the lip on the first day of first grade? If you are Mackenzie: 100%. I picked her up & brought her home, but she went back the next day & so far no more bee stings.

Anybody want a smooch?

The swelling had already gone down quite a bit, but we took a picture anyway.

This is the view of the school that Katie & Kenendy are at from my front porch. Close eh?

Katie giving me attitude about taking a 2nd picture. Oh well. Someday you will learn to just smile, because you know I am going to blog them anyway!

Katie's uniform-basically any color polo except white, blue or pink.

This is an outfit Mackenzie wore to school. She is too cute.

Lagoon-a Matata

Our last hurrah of the summer before school started was a trip to Lagoon. Katie brought Mikayla with her, Mindy came with her kids & Grandma & Grandpa Smedley came. We had an excellent time. Katie & Mikayla went off and did their own thing, so I only have 2 pictures with them in it. Katie & Mikayla

Hyrum & I took a walk while everyone else went on the log plume ride. We had fun hanging out just the 2 of us.

The dinosaur drop. Mackenzie loves it. I think it would seriously make me sick to my stomach!

Kennedy & Hyrum.

Mackenzie & Hannah staying warm, they got a little chilly right before we left.

There was an awesome show we watched right before we left for home. They did awesome singing & dancing. Katie & Mikayla watched it twice, they loved it so much.

Hiking to Timp Caves

Hiking up to see some caves sounds fun, right? That would be NO, not so much. Take 90+ degree weather, steep uphill climb all the way, 1 child afraid of heights, and 1 severly cranky mom & you get a not so happy hike up the hill. We did this hike with Kalynn & her kids, Drew & my kids & Grandpa Smedley. People who would see me sitting pathetically on the side of the path resting would say encouraging things like "You're almost there" and "It really IS worth it". Hiking is just not my joy, but once we finally made it up to the caves it was worth it. Plus, while we were touring the caves it clouded over & started to sprinkly lightly for our hike down, so at least going DOWN was fairly pleasant.

This is us at the top. Look, I'm not even dead!

Inside the caves it was about 45 degrees, much cooler than the 1,000 degrees hiking up. The girls were actually COLD. Good thing we packed sweatshirts.

The heart of the cave. They lit it up.

Drew was in charge of the backpack, which you had to wear in the front so as not to destroy any cave formations.

To me this looks like Davy Jones' beard from Pirates of the Caribbean.

The girls skipped their way down the path, carefully so they didn't fall down off the mountain.

The view on the way down when it was misting. So pretty.
